Start with the experience your group wants

A canyon charter starts with a different planning question from a standard day trip: what offshore experience is your group prepared for? Explain whether you want to concentrate on a particular tuna, discuss a swordfish presentation, or experience a broader mix of canyon fishing.

Canyon names describe underwater features and a wider fishing region. They are not fixed destinations promised with a booking. The captain evaluates a practical route from Bass River using the current conditions, trip duration, fishing opportunity, and the boat’s operating requirements.

Match the target to the proposed itinerary

Yellowfin and bigeye are canyon tuna interests to discuss. Blue and white marlin may be part of an offshore billfish conversation, while swordfish can require a distinct presentation and timing. Our individual species guides help you compare those objectives before you call.

The broader canyon fishery can also offer mahi-mahi around floating structure and occasional wahoo encounters, as described in our fishing guide. These are possibilities within a changing offshore picture, not separately priced trips or promised catches. Tell the captain whether your group would enjoy adapting to an unexpected opportunity.

What does an overnight trip involve?

An overnight arrangement may combine travel, daytime fishing, a change of approach after dark, and more fishing before the return. The actual itinerary is agreed individually. A standard twelve-hour bluefin charter does not automatically become a canyon or overnight charter.

Ask specific questions about rest space, meals, drinking water, cooler capacity, personal equipment, and the expected time aboard. All passengers should understand the plan before reserving. Fish Happens uses its 42-foot Duffy; this is an offshore fishing trip rather than a promise of cruise-style accommodation.

What determines the quote?

The proposed duration, distance, fuel needs, crew requirements, and fishing plan affect a custom quote. There is no fixed canyon price on this site. Ask for the total and any additional charges to be clearly confirmed before paying a deposit.

Provide a preferred date, alternatives, passenger count, ages of any children, and the group’s offshore experience. Review the published booking policies and any trip-specific written arrangement. Confirm how the captain will contact you about the final weather decision and whether a changed destination or target would suit your group.

Give the offshore plan room to change

A weather window must work for the outward run, the fishing time, and the return. A calm forecast at a Cape Cod beach does not settle the offshore decision. The captain determines whether the trip can proceed and may change the plan for conditions, safety, or regulations.

Keep travel arrangements as flexible as you can and contact the captain before heading to the boat. No canyon booking guarantees a particular species, fish size, or catch. The goal is a clearly agreed fishing experience that your entire group understands.

Canyon & overnight trips questions

How much does a Fish Happens canyon charter cost?

Canyon and overnight trips are quoted individually. Duration, distance, fuel, crew requirements, and the proposed fishing plan affect the final total. Call (508) 801-8004 to discuss your group and dates.

Which species can we discuss for a canyon trip?

The main custom targets are yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna, marlin, and swordfish. The captain evaluates what is practical for your dates. Other offshore encounters are possible but no species is guaranteed.

Can I choose a particular canyon?

You can discuss a destination preference, but no named canyon is automatically promised. The captain chooses a practical plan based on the departure point, duration, conditions, and fishing opportunity.

Is an overnight charter suitable for a first fishing trip?

Discuss the full group’s experience and comfort offshore before choosing it. An extended run, fatigue, and time aboard can be demanding. A shorter standard charter may be a better introduction for some groups.

Will a canyon charter run in light rain?

Rain alone does not decide whether the trip runs. The captain evaluates wind, sea conditions, visibility, the route, and the return window. Contact the captain for the actual decision and review the cancellation terms.

Does an online request reserve the boat?

No. The published booking process requires captain confirmation of availability and receipt of the required deposit. Sending a request alone does not confirm the charter.
